Acrylic experimental lyric painting
The song I chose was savage and my visual interpretation of that song has to do with the perception of woman, occupation, and tattoo. Women in the early to mid 1900s were thought of as less, impure and tainted when tattooed because of a loss of innocence. My interpretation has to do with a victorian prostitute with designs on her face.
The challenges of my painting were figuring out how I wanted the colors to effect the mood of the painting. I started over several times in sections of the paintings and kept backround from my first attempts by washing some of the paint away. This was very tedious.
The beginning of my painting was brightly colored and blue without any solid design plan and changed everyday while I attempted to gain the right mood.
I’m trying to evoke a feeling of uncomfortability with how bright the woman's hair is and a feeling of complexity and empathy with the dark and unfortunate stigma of tattoo, especially on women.
